Madhesh provincial minister, members injured in clash with police in Saptari

KATHMANDU: A provincial minister and a member of the provincial assembly were injured during a clash between leaders and supporters of the Janamat Party with the police in Saptari on Monday.

The clash ensued when Janamat Party leaders and supporters attempted to disrupt the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the proposed Agricultural University.

Mahesh Prasad Yadav, Minister for Education and Culture in Madhesh Province, along with Madhesh Provincial Assembly members Satish Singh and Ranju Mandal Khang, sustained injuries in the clash. Minister Yadav suffered injuries to his nose and head. However, police have downplayed the incident, describing it as a mere “pushing” incident.

Janamat Party had earlier announced that it would obstruct the ceremony after the Madhesh Province Assembly decided to invite Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairman Upendra Yadav as the Chief Guest.
