JANAKPURDHAM: Supporters of murder accused member of the House of Representatives, Laxmi Mahato Koiri, Wednesday organised a protest program in Janakpurdham.

The protest has been organized at a time when pressure is mounting on the police administration to arrest the CPN-UMl lawmaker elected from Mahottari-1 constituency.

An organisation named ‘Nagarik Samaj’ took out a protest rally from Bhanu Chowk in Janakpurdham. The rally passed through major thoroughfares of the city.

The protest program was organized in the initiation of Dinesh Purbe who was actively involved in the Madhesh movement. Participants of the rally chanted slogans against the government and police administration.

Koiri is accused of being involved in the murder of Armed Police Force (APF) Sub Inspector Thaman BK. He is alleged to have instructed protesters to remove the injured BK from an ambulance and lynch him during a protest in several Tarai districts in 2015.

Ramrijhan Yadav, one of the organizers of the rally, said efforts were being made to frame a leader elected by the people. “Lawmaker Koiri was not in the area when the incident happened,” he claimed. “Cases are filed against commoners on the charge of murdering police personnel. Why are cases not filed when police personnel in civil dress is killing common people? What kind of justice is this?”

He also said police have devalued people’s vote by registering a fake case against Koiri who has been elected by the people.
