KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has challenged the government to investigate any wrongdoing committed by previous administrations.
Speaking to journalists on the premises of the parliament building on Monday, Shahi said ministers have been accusing past governments of misconduct in an attempt to cover up their own shortcomings. He urged the government to investigate such alleged wrongdoing instead of merely making accusations.
“It is inappropriate for people holding leadership positions in government to use threatening language,” he said. “If previous governments acted in violation of laws, regulations, or the constitution, it is the government’s duty and responsibility to conduct investigations and bring those responsible under legal action.”
Shahi also said a government enjoying nearly two-thirds majority should focus on meeting public expectations and advancing the country’s development. “Although we are in the opposition, we will support the government on issues such as identifying domestic sources of production, promoting investment, creating employment opportunities, and investigating corruption cases from the past,” he added.
