Prithvi Highway, Narayanghat-Muglin road to remain closed from 8 pm

KATHMANDU: The local administration of Chitwan has stopped vehicular movement on Prithvi Highway and Narayanghat-Muglin road on Thursday night, citing a high risk of landslides due to incessant rain.

According to the District Administration Office, Chitwan, vehicular movement on the two important roads in Chitwan will be prevented from 8 pm to 5 pm.

“The restriction was imposed due to continuous rainfall and the high risk of landslides. Further information will be issued based on the road and weather conditions in the morning,” Chitwan Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal said. “Although vehicle movement will resume at 5 am, we will issue another notice if landslides occur or rainfall continues overnight.”

Similarly, the District Administration Office, Dhading, has urged passengers and drivers to travel only after assessing weather and road conditions, avoid risky areas and fully comply with safety instructions issued by the concerned authorities.

The Narayanghat-Muglin road and the Prithvi Highway are crucial road links for Kathmandu, connecting the capital with Chitwan and the western and central parts of the country. The Narayanghat-Muglin Road, which meets the Prithvi Highway at Muglin, links Kathmandu with the East-West Highway and major cities in the southern plains, while the Prithvi Highway provides the main road connection between Kathmandu and Pokhara and western Nepal.
