Principles and policies ritualistic: Dr Wagle

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Dr Swarnim Wagle has expressed grave concerns about the country’s economy, stating that it is facing an unprecedented crisis.

During a discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill, 2023 in the House of Representatives on Monday, Dr. Wagle criticized the bill, labeling it as ritualistic and lacking enthusiasm. He pointed out that the bill has overlooked many crucial issues that need attention to avert the crisis.

Dr Wagle advised Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat to refer to the election manifesto of the Nepali Congress for potential solutions, emphasizing that it contains indicators to boost the private sector’s morale and strengthen the economy. Describing the principles and priorities outlined in the Appropriation Bill as mere rhetoric, Dr. Wagle expressed concern over the unreliability of the entire policy, planning, budget formulation, and government processes. He emphasized the need for correction and improvement in these areas.

Wagle said that the country is now on the path of qualitative development rather than quantitative. “There is no school, no education, no good roads, no health post, no doctor and no medicine. The bill has failed to address such pressing issues,” he said, adding: “I hope, the finance minister will address these concerns in the budget.”
