President removes House of Representatives Secretary Rai

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has removed Secretary of the House of Representatives, Harka Raj Rai.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Office of the President said President Paudel removed Rai on the recommendation of Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal.

“President Ramchandra Paudel, on the recommendation of Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, has removed Harkaraj Rai from the post of Secretary of the House of Representatives effective from May 12, in accordance with Section 6 Clause (e) of the Act Relating to the Remuneration, Terms of Service and facilities of the Secretary General of the Federal Parliament, the Secretary of the House of Representatives and the Secretary of the National Assembly, 2018,” a statement issued by the Office of the President on Tuesday said.

Rai was appointed to the position by former Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

Speaker Aryal had sought clarification from Rai twice before recommending to the President to dismiss him.

The President appoints the House of Representatives secretary on the recommendation of the Speaker.
