KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Raut during a ceremony organized at the Office of the President on Sunday.
The President appointed Raut to the position earlier in the day as per Article 129 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.
The Constitutional Council had recommended Raut to succeed Bishambhar Prasad Shrestha on September 16. His nomination was endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on October 2.
Raut will lead the country’s judiciary for 18 months, as he is retiring on March 31, 2026, on age grounds.
Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Dahal, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Supreme Court Justices, and heads of constitutional agencies, among others, were present on the occasion.
