‘Pooja, Sir’ selected for Busan Film Festival

KATHMANDU: Deepak Rauniyar’s new film ‘Pooja, Sir’ has been selected for the prestigious Busan Film Festival.

The film has been selected in the ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ category which, according to the organizers, gives a peek into the various styles and visions within Asian Cinema, highlighting the latest films from well-established directors as well as the upcoming rookies of the industry.

The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival last week. The social drama tells the story of a female police officer who is sent to secure the release of two abducted children.

Asha Magarati is in the lead role in the movie which also stars established names in the Nepali film industry like Dayahang Rai, Richa Sharma and Bijaya Baral as well as former Miss Nepal Nikita CHandak, Pushpa Yadav, Gaumaya Gurung, Arati Mandal and Ghanashyam Mishra, among others.

First organized in 1996, Busan Film Festival is Asia’s most prestigious film festival. It will be held in Busan, South Korea, on October 2-11. A total of 279 films will be screened during the festival.
