ITAHARI: Police have seized a total of 4,239 kg of cannabis in three separate incidents along the Koshi Highway in Sunsari and Dhankuta districts.
In the first case, 2,130 kg of cannabis was recovered during a routine inspection in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City–13. The cannabis was packed in 70 sacks and hidden beneath sacks of ginger and cauliflower in a truck.
In a similar incident on Tuesday, police confiscated another 2,100 kg of cannabis from a truck near the Tarahara jungle in Itahari–20. The contraband, concealed beneath cauliflower and potato sacks, was found in a truck.
Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the Tarahara case. They have been identified as truck driver Rajendra Rai and Sunil Rai from Shahidbhumi–6 of Dhankuta, and Suman Rai from Barahakshetra–9 of Sunsari.
Meanwhile, Bhedetar Area Police Office arrested Narayan Prasad Rai of Pakhribas–8 with 9.9 kilograms of cannabis in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–6 on Tuesday.
Police have said that investigations into all three cases are ongoing.
