
ITAHARI: A significant quantity of marijuana, hidden beneath the sand, was seized from the Katan Khola riverbank on the border of Harinagara Rural Municipality Wards 5 and 6 in Sunsari district on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a joint operation at the initiation of the Ghuski Police Post. Four personnel under Sub-Inspector Suresh Yadav from Ghuski Police Post, three led by Sub-Inspector Bishnu Bahadur Danuwar from Basantpur Security Base, and six personnel under Sub-Inspector Mahesh Dhakal from the District Police Office, Sunsari, and 20 personnel from the Armed Police Force led by Sub-Inspectors Narendra Ghimire (Ghuski) and Indrajung Thapa (Basantapur) conducted the search operation.
The police uncovered approximately 1,120 kg of marijuana packed in 38 plastic sacks buried under the sand, according to the District Police Office, Sunsari.
Police say an investigation was underway to determine where the marijuana originated from and identify those involved in the smuggling.
