ITAHARI: Police opened fire during a Gen Z-led protest in Itahari on Monday.
According to police sources, dozens of rounds were fired after the demonstration escalated.
Security forces resorted to firing warning shots to control protesters who had entered the premises of the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Office. Following the incident, the East-West Highway was completely blocked for a short period.
Meanwhile, demonstrators vandalized the building in front of the sub-metropolis office. Protesters also pelted stones at a multi-purpose cooperative building. In Bhanuchowk, Dharan, demonstrators also blocked the Dharan–Dhankuta road briefly.
