Parliamentary hearing process begins for Chief Justice nominee Sharma

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has begun the hearing process for Supreme Court Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma, who has been recommended for appointment as the next Chief Justice.

A meeting of the committee held on Friday decided to invite complaints against the proposed Chief Justice Sharma.

Committee Chairperson Bodh Narayan Shrestha said that 10 days have been given for filing complaints as part of the hearing process for the proposed Chief Justice.

He said that complaints or information with clear justification can be submitted within 10 days from the date of publication of the notice through electronic or any other means. Shrestha added that the complaints received will be opened and reviewed on May 19.

As per the constitutional provision, the nominee is appointed by the President after approval from the parliamentary hearing process.

A meeting of the Constitutional Council on Thursday decided to appoint Justice Sharma to the position.
