Over 5,700 security personnel deployed in Kathmandu for election

KATHMANDU: Altogether 5,779 security personnel have been mobilized for the House of Representatives and province assembly elections in Kathmandu.

According to the Election Commission (EC), a sufficient number of security personnel have been deployed to hold the November 20 election in a free and fair manner.

The silent period kicked in from Thursday midnight. According to the EC, security personnel have already been deployed at polling stations as per the central security arrangements of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

SP Dinesh Raj Mainali, the spokesperson for District Police Range, Kathmandu, 2,500 Nepal Police personnel and 3,279 temporary police personnel have been deployed at 757 polling centers of 320 polling stations in Kathmandu Valley.

Likewise, Nepal Police has deployed mobile patrol teams as well as undercover teams to ensure strict adherence to the election code of conduct. Similarly, it has increased the number of police personnel to increase vigil at entry points.
