Over 38,000 take NOC for abroad study in five months

KATHMANDU: Ministry of Education, Science and Technology issued no objection certificates (NOCs) for foreign studies to 59 countries over the first five months of the fiscal year 2022/23.

The NOC Section at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology issued 38,061 no objection certificates (NOCs) for foreign studies in the five-month period (until mid-November).

According to the NOC Division, Australia remains the most popular destination for foreign study among Nepalese students, with 10,799 students receiving NOCs to study there in the first five months of the fiscal year. Japan came in second place with 6,625 NOCs issued, followed by Canada with 6,531.

The majority of these students received NOCs to study subjects such as engineering, information technology, hotel management, medicine, nursing, computer science, linguistics, and management.

Meanwhile, the division canceled 1,558 NOCs during the five-month period.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, a total of Rs 22.61 billion was spent on overseas education in the first five months of the current fiscal year. In the previous fiscal year, Rs 68 billion was reported on overseas education.
