Offenders will face action regardless of their political affiliations: Sapkota

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota has reiterated his party’s unwavering stance that anyone found guilty of gold smuggling will be subjected to legal action in accordance with existing laws.

Speaking at a press conference organized at the party headquarters following his appointment as the party’s spokesperson on Wednesday, Sapkota said that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is committed to concluding the ongoing investigation into the 100 kg gold smuggling case. “If the facts and evidence substantiate the involvement of Maoist Center leaders in the smuggling, they will be handled in accordance with the prevailing laws,” he added.

Sapkota also informed that the government has entrusted the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police with the responsibility of conducting the investigation to ensure that innocent individuals are not falsely accused and the guilty are not let off the hook. “As the public is closely monitoring investigations on cases like the Lalita Niwas land grab scandal and the gold smuggling, there will be no room for the guilty to evade,” he added.

Furthermore, Sapkota also said that the central committee members of the party have urged the government to conduct the gold smuggling investigation without any bias or prejudice.
