KATHMANDU: Talks teams formed by CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP) have decided to suggest the parties to form their respective unity coordination committees.

A meeting of the talks teams of the two parties held at the Maoist Center headquarters on Sunday took a decision to this end. The two parties initiated merger talks after the general elections held in November last year.

Ganga Narayan Shrestha, coordinator of NSP’s talk team, said the meeting decided to suggest that the two parties form unity coordination committees, hold discussions on ideology and policy issues, and move forward by reaching consensus on them.

On the occasion, the teams briefed each other about their activities. The meeting also decided that the merged party’s statute, name, organizational structure, and electoral symbol, among others, will be as suggested by the unity coordination committees.

NSP leaders like Chairman Mahindra Raya Yadav and Co-chairman Ganga Narayan Shrestha, among others, are for immediate unification with the Maoist Center. The other NSP Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai and leaders close to him are reiterating that the party should further strengthen the campaign of alternative politics.

NSP is holding its central committee meeting from Wednesday.
