KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has scrapped the licenses of payment service providers Paywell Nepal Pvt Ltd and Sajilo Pay Payment Services Pvt Ltd.
Issuing a notice on Thursday, the central bank said it scrapped the licenses of the two companies after they violated provisions enshrined in the Payment and Settlement Act, 2018; Payment and Settlement Bylaw, 2020; Integrated Circular on Payment Systems, 2024 and the Monetary Laundering Prevention Act, 2007.
A board meeting of the central bank took the decision as per Section 35 (1) (F) of the Payment and Settlement Act, 2018 on Thursday, the central bank said.
Police investigations have shown that these two companies were involved in illegal activities like Hundi transactions and gold smuggling.
