Non-life insurers post 13.88% premium growth in nine months

KATHMANDU: Non-life insurance companies mobilized Rs 36.58 billion in premiums over the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

This is 13.88% more than the premium mobilized in the same period of the previous fiscal year 2024/25. During the first nine months of the previous fiscal year, 14 non-life insurance companies collected Rs 32.12 billion as premiums.

According to Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), the insurance sector regulator, Shikhar Insurance Company earned the highest premium of Rs 4.80 billion in the review period of the current fiscal year.

Next were Sagarmatha Insurance Company, Himalayan Everest Company and Siddhartha Premier Insurance Company with collections of Rs 3.83 billion, Rs 3.74 billion and Rs 3.12 billion, respectively.

The premium collection of only one company, National Insurance Company Ltd, was below Rs 1 billion. The company collected Rs 981.29 million in premiums in nine months. It has mobilized Rs 879.53 million in the first nine months of the previous fiscal year.

On the other hand, total premium collection by four non-life microinsurance companies increased by a whopping 43.57% in the review period.

According to NIA, Nepal Microinsurance Company, Protective Microinsurance Company, Star Microinsurance Company, and Trust Microinsurance Company collectively raised Rs 986.92 billion in premiums in nine months of 2025/26, up from Rs 686.71 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

In total, non-life insurance and non-life microinsurance companies collected Rs 37.56 million in premiums in nine months of 2025/26, up from Rs 32.81 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The NIA licensed seven microinsurance companies—four non-life and three life—in November 2022 to provide affordable insurance to low-income, marginalized, and rural communities. Each province has been licensed one non-life insurer.
