KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has said that there is no disagreement among the ruling coalition regarding the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank Governor.
Talking to journalists on the parliament premises on Friday, Bartaula said an appropriate candidate will be appointed as the governor very soon.
“There has been some delay in the governor’s appointment. However, there is no disagreement with the Nepali Congress and other coalition partners on this issue,” Bartaula said. “The governor will be appointed through the regular process within a few days.”
Stating that the governor’s position is not tied to any political party, he added that a suitable candidate will be appointed at an appropriate time.
The ruling coalition has reached an understanding to appoint NRB’s Executive Director, Dr Guanakar Bhatt, as the next governor of the central bank. Although Bhatta has tendered his resignation to make him available for selection, Acting Governor Dr Nilam Bhatta Timsina has not accepted his resignation, arguing that only a permanent governor can accept the resignation.
Timsina is also in the race to become the next governor.
