KATHMANDU: Nine individuals have applied to become the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the upcoming byelection in the Rupandehi-3 seat of the House of Representatives.

The party had sought applications from interested candidates between July 23 and August 6.

The party published the list of applicants on Thursday. The list includes Sulav Kharel, Parthivendra Upadhyaya, Dr Lekh Jung Thapa, Gyanu Poudel, Jit Bahadur Gupta, Kusum Maharjan, Rachana Kshetri, Poonam Kumari Agrawal and Madhu Prasad Aryal.

According to RSP Deputy General Secretary Bipin Acharya, claims and objections against the applicants can be filed on Friday and Saturday, following which the party will hold discussions with the applicants on Sunday.

The RSP has adopted a preliminary election process to select its candidate for Rupandehi-3. The internal voting has been scheduled for August 28 and 29, following which it will finalize the candidate on August 31.

The Election Commission Nepal is holding the by-election on November 3. The seat became vacant after the demise of Deepak Bohora of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) on April 1.
