KATHMANDU: The 2026 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, which kicked off on Friday and will continue till May 3, is showcasing the best innovations and products in the Chinese automobile industry and beyond.
Global automakers have debuted their new and upgraded models at the Auto Show. Since China is the world leader in electric vehicle (EV) innovations and technology, the focus is naturally more on EVs.
Here we present you with new launches from brands that have a presence in Nepal:
Xpeng GX

XPeng has unveiled a full-size, six-seater SUV aimed at the premium electric mobility segment. Measuring around 5.2 meters in length with a 3,115 mm wheelbase, the GX focuses on space, comfort, and versatility. Its third-row seats can be folded flat which increases boot space for long-distance travel. The model is offered in both pure electric and extended-range hybrid (EREV) variants. Xpeng is positioning the GX as a flagship family SUV that blends technology, practicality, and performance.

Zeekr 8X

Zeekr has introduced the high-performance 8X at the Auto Show. Built on an advanced 900-volt architecture, the 8X is available in both pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.96 seconds. It is powered by a 1,030 kW all-wheel-drive system which places it among the most powerful SUVs in its class. The 8X integrates cutting-edge battery and charging technology which enables faster energy replenishment and improved efficiency. Its design combines aerodynamic styling with a bold road presence, while the interior is expected to feature high-end materials and smart connectivity.

IM LS8

IM Motors has positioned its LS8, a full-size SUV, as a tech-focused hybrid offering. Starting at around $36,600, the LS8 combines premium dimensions with relatively accessible pricing. Built on an 800-volt architecture, the LS8 is designed to deliver improved charging efficiency and performance. The model comes equipped with large wheels of up to 22 inches and is expected to include a wide range of advanced technology features. The LS8 reflects IM Motors’ strategy of offering feature-rich, future-ready vehicles in the competitive full-size SUV segment.

Chery iCaur Robox

Chery has presented the iCaur Robox concept from its X-series in a bold, futuristic design direction. The Robox features a distinctive boxy upper structure with high ground clearance, large wheels, and pronounced wheel arches, giving it a rugged, off-road-inspired stance. Built on the i-Swift 3.0 platform, the Robox is based on a high-voltage architecture compatible with both lithium-ion and next-generation solid-state batteries. This flexibility signals Chery’s focus on future-ready EV platforms.
Geely Galaxy Light

Geely has unveiled the second-generation Galaxy Light concept at the Auto Show. The model introduces the “Galaxy Starfall” theme, an evolution of its earlier “Ripple Aesthetics” design language, tailored for multi-energy vehicles. The exterior features architecture-inspired headlights and star-pattern rear lighting, giving it a futuristic identity. Compared to its predecessor, the vehicle has a taller and more upright stance. Inside, the concept integrates an AI-driven “cabin-drive integration” system that unifies displays, controls, and seating into a seamless user experience. It is powered by Geely’s AI 2.0 system and equipped with advanced sensors, including a 2160-line digital LiDAR.

Leapmotor B05 Ultra

Leapmotor has launched the B05 Ultra, an affordable electric performance hatchback aimed at mass-market buyers. Priced from around $18,135, the model combines accessibility with strong specifications. The car comes with two battery options—the base variant features a 56.2 kWh LFP battery which delivers a range of up to 500 km on a full charge. The higher variant comes with a 67.1 kWh battery offering a range of around 600 km. The car will be marketed as the B05 in the international market.

BYD

BYD has unveiled the Sealion 08, a flagship full-size SUV under its Ocean series. Designed with the brand’s “marine aesthetics” language, the SUV features sleek body lines and elongated headlights, and offers a spacious cabin with both five- and six-seat configurations. It is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing up to 643 horsepower, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about five seconds. The SUV uses BYD’s second-generation Blade battery and supports ultra-fast charging, reaching 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.
BYD has also introduced an updated version of its entry-level hatchback, the Atto 1. The new model brings significant upgrades, including the introduction of LiDAR technology on the higher trims.
Similarly, BYD has opened bookings for its flagship SUV, the Great Tang. Measuring 5,302 mm in length with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, it is the largest model in its Dynasty lineup yet. It features a new design language with vertical headlights and a modern cabin equipped with a floating center console and dedicated passenger entertainment screens. Built on a high-voltage 1,000-volt platform, the Tang uses a next-generation Blade battery and supports ultra-fast charging.
BYD has also unveiled the third-generation Atto 3. It adopts a rear-wheel-drive platform and is powered by a second-generation Blade battery, along with advanced fast-charging capabilities. The cabin has been redesigned for a cleaner and more modern look, featuring a large floating touchscreen, LCD instrument panel, head-up display, and a two-spoke steering wheel.

Hyundai Ioniq V

Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Ioniq V at Auto China. The model features a three-dimensional design with low-drag styling, highlighted by distinctive “Dimensional Light Blade” lighting and a split headlamp setup. The car built on the 800V platform with CATL batteries is expected to deliver a range of over 600 km of CLTC range. Measuring 4,900 mm in length with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, the Ioniq V offers a balanced blend of presence and practicality. Inside, the cabin adopts a “nebula-wrapped” design theme, centered around a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K display. Ambient lighting and a “Cyber Eye” head-up display further elevate the digital driving experience.
