KATHMANDU: The International Council of Museums (ICOM) Nepal has elected a new executive committee under the leadership of Ramesh Prasad Duwadi for a three-year term.
According to a statement by the ICOM Nepal, the 9th AGM of the organization held in Kathmandu also elected Om Prakash Ghimire as Secretary and Santa Bahadur Gurung as Treasurer. Other members of the committee include Dr Pashupati Neupane, Roshan Mishra, Shanta Chaudhary, Pabitra Thapaliya, Santosh Kumar Subedi, and Khyam Prasad Shivakoti.
ICOM is a global body that establishes professional and ethical standards for museum activities across the world. ICOM Nepal serves as its national committee for Nepal.
Newly-elected Secretary Om Prakash Ghimire said the committee will place special emphasis on making Nepal’s museum sector more organized and effective in the coming days. “Particular focus will be given to strengthening and upgrading small, locally run museums by bringing them in line with established standards and benchmarks,” he said.
According to the statement, ICOM Nepal has 19 institutional museum members and 51 individual members. It has been implementing various programs aimed at the development of the museum sector in Nepal, knowledge generation, advocacy, and capacity building.
