KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gains for a fifth straight session, adding 15.54 points to close trading at 2,131.49 points on Wednesday.

This is the longest gaining streak on the bourse since December 21 last year when the benchmark index had snapped its seven-day winning run.

Although the sub-indices of nine trading groups posted losses on the day, the Banking sub-index posted a gain of 4.23% to lift the overall index. The Development Bank, Hotels & Tourism and Mutual Fund sub-indices also posted gains. All other sub-indices ended the session in the red.

Share prices of 161 companies declined on the day, while 81 advanced and five remained unchanged. Share prices of two companies hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session.

Nerdeurude Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 244.28 million traded. Next were Pokhara Finance Ltd and CEDB Hydropower Development Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 211.29 million and Rs 175.33 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 5.68 billion were traded on the bourse on Wednesday, while the market capitalization reached Rs 3.37 trillion.
