Nepse turnover down 53% to Rs 181.45 billion

KATHMANDU: Trading activity on the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) contracted sharply over the first two months of fiscal year 2026/27.

According to data released by the Nepse, the number of shares traded on the country’s only bourse fell 50.38% in the review period. Data show 451.25 million shares changed hands over the first two months of the current fiscal year, compared to 909.46 million in the same period of 2025/26.

Total turnover fell by an even higher 53.08% during the review period. Shares worth Rs 181.45 billion were traded over the first two months of the current fiscal year, down from Rs 387.64 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the same period of 2024/25, the bourse recorded a total turnover of Rs 668.77 billion with 1.58 billion units traded.

The number of transactions also declined by 42.94% in the review period. Nepse data show that a total of 2.22 million transactions were recorded in the first two months of 2026/27, down from 3.89 million in the same period of 2025/26 and 7.57 million in 2024/25.

Among individual stocks, Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd topped the turnover chart in the second month of 2026/27, i.e., mid-Aug to mid-Sept, with total turnover of Rs 5.21 billion.

Market capitalization, however, increased by 0.66% to Rs 4,496.72 billion over the first two months of 2026/27, largely due to new listings on the bourse. Average daily turnover fell 42.94% to Rs 4.42 billion in the review period, down from Rs 10.45 billion in the same period of 2025/26 and Rs 16.31 billion in 2024/25.

Among individual stocks, Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd topped the turnover chart in the second month of 2026/27, i.e., mid-Aug to mid-Sept, with total turnover of Rs 5.21 billion. Solu Hydropower Ltd and Ridi Power Company Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 3.31 billion and Rs 2.17 billion, respectively. However, Liberty Energy Company was at the top in terms of number of shares traded, with 7.64 million units traded. Ridi Power Company and Solu Hydropower Ltd were next, with 6.16 million and 4.9 million units changing hands.

Sector-wise, Hydropower topped the turnover list with Rs 86.06 billion worth of hydropower stocks traded over the first two months of 2026/27. Manufacturing & Processing and Banking stocks were next, with total turnovers of Rs 13.51 billion and Rs 20.20 billion, respectively.
