Nepse index breaches 2,000-point resistance, closes 56.88 points higher

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) went up by 56.88 points on Thursday to end the last trading day of the week 2.88% higher compared to Wednesday.

This is the first time that the Nepse index is sitting above the 2,000-point mark since August 26 when the market had closed at 2,022.63 points.

The benchmark index added 104.94 in four trading days this week as investors welcomed the formation of the new government under CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

The market opened for trading at 1972.15 points and dropped to an intra-day low of 1,962.81 points. The index, however, gained momentum thereafter and logged gains throughout the trading session to ultimately close at 2,029.03 points.

All the trading groups ended the day in green with the maximum gain coming from the Finance sub-index which was up by 5.38%. Next on the list were Hydropower and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices which were up by 4.92% and 4.39%, respectively.

A total of 8.02 million units of 257 scrips worth Rs 2.86 billion changed hands through 45,944 transactions on Thursday.
