Nepse extends losses to fourth straight session

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended losses for a fourth straight session on Wednesday, ending the session 6.46 points lower at 2,026.59 points.

Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, hitting an intra-day high of 2,044.45 within the hour mark, it fell thereafter and eventually ended the session 0.31% lower.

Share prices of 159 companies declined, while 80 advanced and nine remained unchanged on the day. Despite the bearish run on the bourse, share prices of four companies hit the positive circuit of 10% on Wednesday. Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of Rs 111.22 million on Wednesday with 173,537 units of shares traded.

Among trading groups, only the Manufacturing & Processing ended the day in the green. All other sub-indices posted losses with the highest loss coming from the Hydropower sub-index, which was down by 0.88%.

The daily turnover fell to Rs 2.21 billion – the lowest since December 10 last year.
