Nepse extends losses to fourth straight session

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run for a fourth straight session, going down 14.81 points to close trading at 1,99.72 points on Tuesday.

This is the first time since March 3 that the benchmark index has closed below the psychological 2,000-point level.

The Nepse index has lost 44.28 points over the past four trading sessions. Share prices of 199 companies fell on Tuesday, while 42 posted gains and three remained unchanged. Gurkhas Finance Ltd registered the highest turnover of the day with Rs 175.97 million worth of shares traded. Surya Jyoti Life Insurance Company Ltd and Pokhara Finance Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 74.35 million and Rs 66.89 million, respectively.

All the trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Hydropower sub-index which was down by 1.31%. Next were Microfinance and Others sub-indices with losses of 1.16% and 1.07%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 2.1 billion were traded on the secondary market on Tuesday, while market capitalization reached Rs 3.15 trillion.
