Nepse extends losses into fourth straight session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run for a fourth straight session, losing 17.01 points to close the week’s first trading day at 2,031.55 points on Monday.

The market lost nearly 20 points within the first half-hour of trading and remained at the same level throughout the session.

Share prices of 204 companies declined on the day, while 37 advanced and three remained unchanged. Share prices of Bottlers Nepal Limited and newly-listed Sarbottam Cement Ltd hit the positive circuit of 10% on the day.

Gurkhas Finance Ltd registered the highest turnover of the day with Rs 289.02 million worth of shares traded. Next were Shivam Cement and Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd with turnovers of Rs 137.87 million and Rs 81.32 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, four sub-indices posted gains, while nine registered losses. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing and Processing sub-index, which was up by 2.19%, while the Microfinance sub-index logged the biggest loss of 2.25%.

Shares worth Rs 2.48 billion were traded on the bourse on Monday through 44,236 transactions.
