Nepse extends gaining streak to fifth session

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its bullish run on Thursday, climbing 9.14 points to close at 2,703.96 on the last trading day of the week.

With this, the benchmark stretched gains to a fifth straight session. Likewise, it marked the first time the Nepse index breached the psychological threshold of 2,700 points since April 20.

A total of 122 scrips posted gains while 125 ended lower. Butwal Power Company Ltd led the turnover charts with shares worth Rs 316.88 million changing hands. Sahas Urja Ltd and Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 272.87 million and Rs 262.84 million, respectively.

Of the 13 trading sub-indices, eight closed in the green. The Finance sub-index led the charge with a robust 4.09% gain. Life Insurance and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices also performed well, rising 2.62% and 2.24%, respectively. On the losing side, the Trading sub-index saw the steepest drop of 1.29%, followed by Investment (-0.7%) and Hydropower (-0.59%).

Despite the market’s positive momentum, total turnover edged slightly lower to Rs 9.64 billion, with 24.97 million shares traded through 96,411 transactions.
