Nepse ends three-day gaining run, closes 36.25 points lower

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a three-day gaining run on Wednesday, closing 36.25 points lower at 2,618.03.

Although the benchmark index had gained 15 points during pre-opening trade on Wednesday, it fell into negative territory as soon as regular trading began and eventually ended the session 1.36% lower.

Investors were on a selling spree on Wednesday as 253 stocks declined, while 23 advanced and two remained unchanged. Total turnover also fell slightly to Rs 6.35 billion compared to Tuesday, with 21.62 million units traded across 57,947 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd hit the 15% positive circuit on Wednesday. CYC Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and NIFRA Green Energy Debenture 6% also posted gains of 5.44% and 5.04%, respectively. On the other hand, First Microfinance Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd posted the largest loss of 8.54%. Next were Mount Everest Power Development Ltd and Kalika Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd with losses of 5.72% and 5.26%, respectively.

Shivam Cements Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 383.44 million. Next were Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd with turnovers of Rs 212.56 million and Rs 205.41 million, respectively.

All trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Life Insurance sub-index, which tanked 2.04%. Next were the Hydropower and the Others sub-indices with losses of 1.66% and 1.65%, respectively.
