
KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went down by 20.68 points, closing trading at 2,751.42 points on Monday.
The benchmark index has been shedding points consistently since it snapped a nine-day winning run on March 3. Since then, the index has lost 138.86 points.
Although Nepse index posted gains initially, reaching an intra-day high of 2,791.04 points, it erased all the gains as the session progressed and eventually ended 0.74% lower. Unit prices of 191 scrips fell on the day, while 44 posted gains and eight remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 735.09 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and NLG Insurance Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 731.77 million and Rs 349.84 million, respectively.
Except for the Others sub-index, which posted a nominal 0.08% gain, the sub-indices of all trading groups closed lower on Monday. The biggest loss came from the Mutual Fund sub-index, which was down by 3.06%. Next were Trading and Investment sub-indices which ended the session 1.65% and 1.51% lower.
Turnover fell to Rs 8.37 billion on Monday – the lowest since March 20 when Rs 8.45 billion worth of securities were traded on the bourse.
