KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index went down by 17.30 points and closed the first trading day of the week at 2,018.33 points on Sunday.

Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, it erased all the gains as the day progressed and eventually ended the session 0.85% lower.

Share prices of 172 companies declined on the day, while 63 advanced, and 10 remained unchanged. Sarbottam Cement registered the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 286.89 million traded. Next were Gurkhas Finance Ltd and Shivam Cement Ltd with turnover of Rs 125.66 million and Rs 115.51 million, respectively.

Except for the Non-life Insurance sub-index, all trading groups ended the day in the red on Sunday. The biggest loss came from Manufacturing & Processing, which went down by 3.65 points.

Shares worth Rs 3.2 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 67,044 transactions.
