Nepse down 12.36 points; turnover slightly improves to Rs 3.89 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) returned to losing ways on Thursday, shedding 12.36 points to close at 2,742.11.

The benchmark index, which had snapped a two-day losing streak with a gain of 30.08 points on Wednesday, failed to sustain the upward momentum in the following session.

Despite the decline in the index, total turnover improved to Rs 3.89 billion on Thursday. A total of 8.95 million units were traded through 44,744 transactions during the session.

Unit prices of 188 scrips declined during the session, while 72 advanced and nine remained unchanged.

Among individual stocks, 8.5% Prabhu Bank Deventure 2087 logged the highest gain of 6.62%. On the other hand, United Lohorekhola Hydropower Company Ltd suffered the biggest loss of 14.95%. Likewise, Ankhukhola Jalvidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 177.25 million worth of shares traded. Next were Ridi Power Company Ltd and Bungal Hydro Ltd with turnovers of Rs 150.73 million and Rs 135.92 million, respectively.

Eleven sub-indices ended the session in the red, while one, the Mutual Fund sub-index, posted a nominal gain of 0.14%. The trading sub-index remained unchanged. The biggest loss came from the Hotels & Tourism sub-index, which slipped 0.86%.
