Nepse close to 2,700-point level; turnover rises to Rs 9.74 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its gaining streak to a fourth straight session on Wednesday, closing 34.32 points higher at 2,694.82 points.

The benchmark index has added 96.08 points over the past four sessions. The gain on Wednesday propelled the Nepse index close to the 2,700-point psychological level. This also marked the longest gaining streak on the bourse since March 3, when the market snapped a nine-day winning run.

Turnover improved significantly to Rs 9.74 billion on Wednesday, with 30.18 million shares traded through 89,468 transactions. A total of 15.76 million units worth Rs 7.03 billion were traded on the bourse on Tuesday.

Unit prices of 182 scrips went up during the session, while 65 declined, and one remained unchanged. NRN Infrastructure & Development posted the highest turnover of the session, with Rs 555.32 million worth of shares traded. Next were Sahas Urja Ltd and Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 494.12 million and Rs 350 million, respectively.

All trading groups posted gains on the day. The Life Insurance sub-index posted the biggest gain of 2.83%, followed by the Non-Life Insurance and Development Bank sub-indices, with gains of 2.51% and 2.31%, respectively.
