Nepse back to winning ways after ending four-day losing run

KATHMANDU: The market snapped a four-day losing streak as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index ended 10.14 points higher at 2,041.70 points on Tuesday.

The bourse witnessed a volatile session on the day as the benchmark index dropped to an intra-day low of 2,032.62 points and climbed to an intra-day high of 2,048.64 before closing at 2,041.70 points.

Share prices of 168 companies increased on the day, while 68 declined, and 10 remained unchanged. Share prices of Dolti Hydropower Ltd and Sarbottam Cement Ltd hit a positive circuit of 10%. Shivam Cement logged the highest turnover of the day with shares worth Rs 93.13 million traded. Sonapur Minerals and Cement and Joshi Hydropower Development Company followed with shares worth Rs 85.75 million and Rs 82.94 million, respectively, traded.

Among trading groups, 10 posted gains while three ended the session in the red. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing group, which was up by 2.11%. Next were Hydropower and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 1.58% and 0.515%, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 2.35 billion were traded on the bourse on Tuesday – the lowest turnover since March 4 when circuit breakers were activated which limited share trading to only five minutes.
