Nepali envoy pays courtesy call on Bangladeshi foreign minister

KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Hasan Mahmud, at the latte’s office in Dhaka on Sunday.

During the meeting, Bhandari congratulated Dr. Mahmud on his appointment as the foreign minister and handed over a congratulatory message from Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud, the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka said in a statement. On the occasion, Bhandari recalled the congratulatory message sent by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her reelection on January 8.

According to the statement, Bhandari and Dr Mahmud held discussions on Nepal-Bangladesh relations with a particular emphasis on economic cooperation. “Dr Mahmud, recalling his official visits to Nepal, expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations and emphasized the need to tap into the potential in trade, tourism, energy, climate change, and people-to-people contacts,” the statement said. The foreign minister also highlighted the importance of expediting negotiations for power trade between the two countries.

Ambassador Bhandari shared updates on bilateral mechanisms, including Foreign Office Consultations, Joint Steering Committee on Energy and Commerce Secretary-Level Meetings.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were also present during the meeting. Ambassador Bhandari was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission Lalita Silwal and Second Secretary Yojana Bamjan, according to the statement.
