KATHMANDU: Nepal and Norway have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
The second meeting of the Nepal–Norway Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) held in Kathmandu on Tuesday reviewed the entire gamut of Nepal–Norway relations, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The Nepali side appreciated the continued support of the Norwegian government to Nepal’s development endeavors. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties,” the ministry added in the statement.
During the meeting, the Nepali delegation provided an overview of the country’s current political landscape and the priorities of the new government, which include good governance, anti-corruption measures, and efficient public service delivery. Nepal also highlighted its focus on driving economic growth through key sectors such as hydropower, tourism, and information technology.
Development cooperation featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides exploring collaboration in basic and primary education, renewable energy, and climate resilience. Norway reaffirmed its commitment to remain a reliable partner in Nepal’s sustainable development journey.
The two sides also discussed opportunities in the green economy, particularly in clean energy transition and electric mobility, areas where both countries have made notable progress. Nepal sought greater Norwegian engagement in hydropower generation and transmission infrastructure.
The Nepali delegation was led by Joint Secretary and Head of the ministry’s Europe Division Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, while the Norwegian side was headed by Director General of the Department for Regional Affairs at Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Signe Brudeset.
