KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in several key areas.
During the 16th meeting of the Diplomatic Consultation Mechanism between the foreign ministries of the two countries held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the two sides held discussions on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, infrastructure development, and agriculture.
Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal led the Nepali delegation in the meeting, while the Chinese delegation was led by Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal’s development efforts as the country approaches its graduation from least developed country status in 2026.
Issuing a statement, the ministry said both the Heads of delegation reiterated that strong foundations of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Panchsheel, mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding remain the guiding features of Nepal-China bilateral relations. “Both sides shared views on maintaining the tradition of regular exchange of high-level visits. They discussed ways and means to further enhance cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure development, connectivity, and agriculture, among others, including the promotion of Nepal’s tourism prospects in China in the context of the celebration of the year 2025 as ‘Visit Nepal Year in China’,” the ministry said in a statement after the meeting.
Nepal and China have decided to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China with special programs and activities in 2025.
