NEA builds Tier-3 data center in Syuchatar

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has built an international-standard data center on the premises of its Load Dispatch Center in Syuchatar, Kathmandu.

According to the utility, the data center can also provide services to commercial entities in the future. The three-story building, constructed using pre-fabricated containers, houses the control room for the underground electricity distribution system and the security operations center on the ground floor. The first floor contains the office and network operations room, while the top floor houses the data center.

NEA plans to gradually integrate and store all its data in the new Tier-3 data center. NEA Executive Director Kul Man Ghising said NEA was also working to build its own private cloud storage. Ghising also added that the process of constructing a Disaster Recovery Center at the New Butwal substation in Sunwal, Nawalparasi, was underway.

According to the NEA, the new data center has 40 information technology rooms, including 36 server rooms and four network rooms. It has features like the N+1 power supply system, a cooling system, automatic fire control, and CCTV monitoring, among others.
