NC to have 297-member Central Working Committee

KATHMANDU: Amendments to the Nepali Congress (NC) Statute, 1961, have been approved.

The closed-session of the party’s 15th General Convention on Monday approved the statute amendment proposal submitted by party General Secretary Pradeep Paudel.

According to NC Spokesperson Devraj Chalise, the party will now have a 297-member Central Working Committee.

As per the amended statute, the Central Working Committee will have one president; one senior vice president; four vice presidents, including one woman; three general secretaries, including one woman; and 15 joint general secretaries. The treasurer will be nominated by the Central Working Committee.

Similarly, 45 Central Working Committee members will be elected from the open category; 15 from the women’s category, and four members from each of the seven provinces, including one woman from each province. Two Central Working Committee members, including one woman, will come from the Kathmandu Valley.

Likewise, 14 Central Working Committee members, including five women, will come from the Dalit cluster; 20, including eight women, from the indigenous nationalities cluster; 18, including eight women, from the Khas/Arya cluster; and 13, including five women, from the Madhesi cluster. Similarly, there will be seven members, including two women, from the diaspora cluster and three from the backward region cluster.

The Central Working Committee will have six seats, including two women, from the Tharu cluster; three, including one woman, from the laborers’ cluster; and seven, including two women, from the professional cluster. Likewise, the Central Working Committee will have 21 seats for youths below 35 years of age, one seat for persons with disabilities, and three seats for freedom fighters.

As per the amended statute, 66 members will be nominated by the Central Working Committee.
