NC suspends Kanchharam, but spares Purna Bahadur Khadka

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) Central Discipline Committee has decided to put on hold the disciplinary action process against former Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka.

The committee made the decision, concluding that the matter had lost its relevance following a recent Supreme Court ruling, and therefore, there was no need to proceed further.

The disciplinary action was initiated after Khadka issued statements in the party’s official letterhead using the ‘Acting President’ designation. Similarly, it had sought a three-day

The committee sought a three-day clarification within three days, stating that he had made misleading and baseless remarks against the party and its leadership without observing the dignity of his position.

Earlier, the committee had sought clarification from Khadka regarding his responsibilities in party positions. However, after the court ruling, it was concluded that continuing the matter was neither legally nor politically necessary.

Meanwhile, the committee has decided to suspend Purna Bahadur Tamang, aka Kanchharam, the president of the party’s Ramchhap District Committee, from his position. The committee has said that the decision was taken as Tamang’s clarification was found unsatisfactory and further investigation was required. “The suspension has been imposed until a final decision is made, as his continued role as president could affect the investigation,” the committee said.

The committee has also instructed party leaders and candidates accused of violating party discipline during the House of Representatives elections to submit clarifications within seven days.
