KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa Wednesday said the party leadership should apologize to the people for its failure to save the coalition.
“Since the party solicited votes in the past elections, telling people that the coalition will continue for 20 years and that the coalition will ensure stability and prosperity. We gave limited choice to the people in the election, and failed to continue the coalition even for five years,” he said, adding: “The leadership should tell the people why this happened.”
NC had formed an alliance with CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Janamorcha, among other parties, in the election. However, Maoist Center Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal joined hands with the CPN-UMl to form the government after the election.
“UML tricked NC in course of government formation. It told NC it will help it form the government, and supported Dahal to form the government,” Thapa added.
Thapa also said the NC will defeat UML’s candidate in the presidential election come what may.
He also criticized the RPP, which is calling for the scrapping of provinces, for assuming positions of Speaker and minister in province assemblies and governments.
