NC lawmaker Bhandari returns home after treatment in Mumbai

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr. Chandrakanta Bhandari, who suffered severe burns due to a gas cylinder explosion at his home, has returned home after receiving treatment in India.

Dr Bhandari received treatment at the National Burns Center in Mumbai for nearly two and a half months.

In a press note issued upon his arrival in Kathmandu, Bhandari stated that he intends to lead a campaign to reduce the death rate caused by fires by 50%. He emphasized the need to raise awareness to decrease fire incidents caused by gas cylinders.

Bhandari also urged the government to allocate the necessary funds to establish burn hospitals in all seven provinces of the country and prepare the required workforce for those hospitals so that people can received treatment in Nepal itself.

Bhandari was injured when a gas cylinder exploded at his house at around 10:30 pm on February 15. His mother Harikala passed away while undergoing treatment. Bhandari was airlifted to Mumbai on the suggestion of doctors attending to him.
