NC election process begins today, voting set for Thursday

KATHMANDU: Voting will be held to elect the new leadership of the Nepali Congress (NC) on Thursday.

According to the election program published by the party’s Congress Election Committee, the election process will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday with the publication of the voter list.

Claims and objections to the voter list can be filed from 5 to 6:30 p.m. of the same day, while claims and objections will be studied from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The final voter list will be published at 8:30 p.m.

Similarly, candidates can file their nominations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on Tuesday. The final list of candidates will be published at 4:30 p.m. Claims and objections to the nomination applications can be filed from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., while the second list of candidates will be published at 7 p.m.

According to the committee, candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations or submit applications to correct their candidacies until 9 a.m. Wednesday. The final candidate list will be published at 10 a.m. Candidates will then be allowed to campaign throughout the day.

Voting has been scheduled for Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Election Committee has designated three polling locations.

Representatives from Bagmati province will vote at the City Hall, while representatives from Koshi, Madhes, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as those representing the party’s sister and affiliated organizations and overseas chapters, will vote at Khula Manch.

Representatives from Gandaki and Lumbini provinces will vote at the polling center designated at the Nepal Academy.
