KHOTANG: The flow of both domestic and foreign tourists to Muldanda in Khotehang Rural Municipality, Khotang, is on the rise in recent times. The influx of visitors is further bolstered by the newly constructed road linking Khotang and Bhojpur which passes through Muldanda.
Travelers on this route often stop at Muldanda, situated at an elevation of 2,700 meters above sea level, to take a break. Some even choose to spend a night or two in this tranquil locale. The weather in Muldanda is ever-changing, with the sun shining brightly one moment and thick fog enveloping the entire area the next.
According to Padiki Sherpa, a local resident, there are only nine Sherpa families residing in Muldanda. “Since this road connects Bhojpur and Khotang districts, we’ve seen a boost in business lately, with visitors opting to stay the night here,” she stated.
She went on to explain that the primary source of income in the area is derived from local produce. “Potatoes are our main crop, and this season, we’ve also been selling hazelnuts, which are found in abundance in the region,” she added.
Chiring Sherpa, another local from the area, expressed her belief that Muldanda possesses substantial potential for tourism development. However, she pointed out a water shortage issue. “It would be beneficial if the municipality could facilitate access to drinking water,” she said.
Muldanda is approximately a three-hour walk from Khotang Bazaar, but the journey can be completed in one hour by motorbike. The travel time to Muldanda from Bhojpur is roughly the same.
