Mobile wallets process payments worth Rs 17.22 billion in fourth month Representative Image

KATHMANDU: Mobile wallets handled total transactions worth Rs 17.22 billion in the fourth month (mid-Oct to mid-Nov) of the current fiscal year.

According to the Nepal Rastra bank, such transactions were worth Rs 13.94 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has licensed 27 payment service providers (PSP) to provide mobile wallet and related services. Similarly, commercial banks, development banks and financial companies have also received (PSP) licenses.

Meanwhile, the number of mobile wallet users has reached 15.13 million in the fourth month of the current fiscal year – a rise of nearly 48% in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

According to Money Payment System Indicators of the Fourth Month of the Fiscal Year 2022/23 made public by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday, the number of mobile wallet users has increased by 47.79% in the one-year period.

In mid-November last year, there were 10.24 million mobile wallet users in the country.
