KATHMANDU: Former mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality Kiran Singh has been found dead in a forest area.
According to the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, Singh’s body was found near his motorcycle on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police Manohar Bhatta, chief of Kapilvastu police, said members of the search team had found Singh’s motorcycle on Saturday.
The 65-year-old had left his home in Kapilvastu-3 at around 2 pm on Friday. CCTV footage showed the Nepali Congress (NC) leader heading toward Ramraj Bridge at around 3:27 pm, police say
After reaching the bridge, Singh reportedly contacted a person close to him by phone and said he had lost his way in the forest.
His relatives and local residents then began searching for him. On Saturday, they found his motorcycle parked in a forest area about eight kilometers from the East-West Highway.
Police, relatives and locals continued the search in the area. “The body was found near the location of his motorcycle, SP Bhatta said.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
