Minister Acharya seeks solidarity with 16 days of activism against gender-based violence

KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Surendra Raj Acharya, has urged all concerned to express solidarity to the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence (GBV).

Speaking at a news conference organized by the ministry, Acharya requested stakeholders—individuals, families, civil society, and organizations—to express solidarity with the 16-day activism against GBV by launching different awareness and message-oriented programs. He shared that preparations have been made to observe the activism by organizing province-level public awareness programs in all seven provinces.

“The government is effortful to build a prosperous society by elevating the status of women with utmost utilization of available means and resources and formulation of women-centric policy, laws, plans, structures, and programs,” Minister Acharya shared. He further said that the government was committed to ending all types of violence and discrimination against women by adopting zero tolerance to GBV and protecting women’s rights.

Presenting a working paper related to the historical background of the activism, national and international commitments, and programs on the occasion, Samyog Thakuri, a member of the Men’s Network, pointed out that all should join hands to end violence against women.

The slogan of the activism for this year is “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.”
