Top two teams from Asian Qualifier that Nepal is hosting in October will qualify for the world cup

Men’s T20 World Cup: 15 out of 20 teams finalized

KATHMANDU: The lineup for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is almost complete, with 15 out of 20 teams already finalized.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) secured its spot as the 15th team in the Men’s T20 World Cup by winning the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. PNG emerged victorious in all five matches in the Qualifier where it competed against Japan, Vanuatu, and the Philippines.

Scotland and Ireland have also earned their places in the Men’s T20 World Cup from the European qualifier which was hosted by Scotland. Germany, Italy, Jersey, Denmark, and Austria were the other teams participating in the qualifier.

Five more teams will be selected to join the tournament. One team will come from the Americas Qualifier, while two teams each from the Asian and African Qualifiers will also qualify. The United States and West Indies are jointly hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup next year.

The 20 qualified teams will be divided into four groups, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

Nepal is set to host the Asian Qualifier from October 30 to November 9. The participating teams in this qualifier include Bahrain, Hong Kong, Nepal, Oman, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, as well as the winners of Qualifier A and Qualifier B. The top two teams from this qualifier will secure their spots in the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Similarly, Namibia will host the African Qualifier from November 20 to December 1, where two out of seven teams – Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe – will qualify for the Men’s T20 World Cup.

The top eight teams from the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup – Australia, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka – were directly selected for the Men’s T20 World Cup. Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the next two teams in the T20I rankings, as well as the hosts, the US and West Indies, qualified automatically for the World Cup.

The 20 qualified teams will be divided into four groups, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
