KATHMANDU: Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA Nepal) has awarded the contract to build a 400 kV substation in Ratmate of Nuwakot to Techno Electric and Engineering Company of India.

Khadga Bahadur Bisht, executive director at MCA Nepal, and Rajiv Agarwal, director-commercial at Techno Electric and Engineering Company Ltd, signed and exchanged the contract in the presence of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and MCA-Nepal officials in Kathmandu on Sunday.

With this, MCA Nepal has awarded contracts to build two out of three substations under the MCC Nepal Compact.

“The 400 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation will be constructed within the contract duration of 39 months. Once completed, the Ratmate Substation will have a capacity of 1,000 Mega Volt Ampere making it one of the largest substations in the country,” MCA Nepal said in a statement.

The contract is worth $51.6 million.

“The Ratmate Substation will serve as a critical interconnection of power transmission between the Lapsiphedi and New Hetauda Substations,” the statement added.

Earlier, MCA Nepal awarded the contract to build the New-Butwal Substation to Linxon India Pvt Ltd.

Nepal is executing two projects under the MCC: the upgrading of an 80-kilometer section of the East-West Highway and the construction of a 315km 400 kV transmission line along with its three substations.

The MCC projects are being supervised by the MCA Nepal Development Committee, under the Ministry of Finance.
